Playing at the Jets’ home ground in Melbourne’s west, the Coast turned it on to make amends for last week’s loss and then some as the boys romped home 26-13 (169) to 5-5 (35). Midfielder Josh Thomas was best on ground and dominated in the midfield for the Coasters in the 140-point annihilation. He was well supported by on-baller Taylor Rolfe and Todd Grayson, who was sensational on the wing before also starring down back. Hamish Watts and James Nelis were also strong in the back half. Up forward, Liam Rutledge was superb with four goals and was the Coast’s main target. while Luke Shreeve reaffirmed his status as a goal-kicking midfielder with an impressive five-goal haul. Matt Fowler booted four goals, while big man Charlie Dixon had three goals in his first match back from injury. Newcomer Fabian Aaron kicked three goals and skipper Marc Lock chipped in with two goals. You would be hard pressed to find a player on the day who did not play his role – it was hard, skilful and disciplined team performance. The Coast were on the back foot early as the Jets kicked the first two goals of the match in front of their home supporters. Gold Coast were jumped in similar style last week and one may have thought they would have again dropped their heads. But two quick goals to the Coast, through Rutdlege and Thomas, turned the switch for the youngsters who felt their confidence rising. The Coast then booted seven first quarter goals to set up the strong win. It was all one-way traffic after that as it all finally came together for the Guy McKenna-coached Coasters, who have been training together since November. Following last week’s hiccup against the Eastern Ranges the win has sent an ominous message to the rest of the competition – the Coast has arrived. GCFC have a bye next weekend and will travel to Melbourne for its next game against Tasmania at the MCG on Sunday April 26 at 2.10pm. By Nick Smart in Melbourne courtesy of the Gold Coast Bulletin.
