Gold Coast SUNS forward Charlie Dixon found himself in a spot of difficulty recently as Gold Coast radio station 92.5 Gold FM scrambled to raise much needed funds during their annual Give Me 5 For Kids charity campaign.

Dixon was handcuffed to a bed at the Gold Coast Hospital and informed that release would come only after he had secured $1,000 by calling family, friends and Gold Coast SUNS team mates.

Midfielder David Swallow was the first to answer the SOS while ruck coach Jeff White assisted the cause.
“I was a bit worried at the start that none of the boys would answer my calls, but Dave and Whitey were quick to donate some cash and that got the ball rolling for me.”

Dixon joined a host of local celebrities and identities including Iron Woman Hayley Bateup for the Give Me 5 For Kids event, the group looking to raise over $150,000.

Give Me 5 For Kids is Gold FM's annual fundraising appeal with the sole purpose of raising much needed funds for the children's wards at the Gold Coast Hospital.

All funds raised stay locally where it's needed ensuring our sick children receive the best possible care.
Funds raised are used to purchase vital equipment that would otherwise see them have to travel long distances to receive the treatment they need
