Steven May and Gary Ablett have been named to take to the field against Richmond, and will be given every chance to prove their fitness for the round 19 fixture at Metricon Stadium.

A change of tact will see Gold Coast complete its main training session under lights this evening, in a bid to adapt to the conditions of playing with the yellow sherrin on Saturday night.

May (hamstring) will be put through his paces under the watch of the high performance staff, while ‘Gaz’ will also look to overcome a troublesome hamstring that has plagued continuity with his football this month.

Both players will be monitored closely, however senior coach Rodney Eade told reporters on Thursday no risks would be taken with either of his stars should they show any sign of soreness.

Rookie SUN Max Spencer has been upgraded onto the senior list, and is a chance to be called upon as insurance should May be unavailable for the weekend.

The GC Academy graduate has been plying his trade in the NEAFL this season, and would look to provide support to the side’s undersized backline if selected.

Fellow GC local and Academy alumnus Jesse Joyce has reclaimed his position as a first-choice backman, earning a senior-recall following his performance against Southport last weekend.

Jack Bowes, Jesse Lonergan and Trent McKenzie have been omitted from the senior team.
