There is no doubting Jared Brennan is a player of remarkable talent and ability, however despite the Gold Coast SUNS current injury crisis the Clubs match committee have omitted the utility from Saturdays squad to play Carlton at Metricon Stadium.
On the back of six goals in an undermanned NEAFL side last weekend, Jacob Gilbee has been included in senior team this week, a move which will see Charlie Dixon given the Ruck responsibilities in his return from injury.
Coach Guy McKenna saying it was important the team adheres to its selection standards despite the current injury concerns with Brennan’s position in the twenty two taken by the lively Gilbee.
Jacob Gilbee kicked six goals last week in the NEAFL and has been in good form and deserves his chance.
Dropped following the Clubs round seven loss against GWS in Canberra, Brennan worked his way back into the selection frame, however Coaching staff have made it clear he has failed to provide the intent required of a ten year veteran in recent outings.
As a senior player it’s fair to say we expect more from Jared and he has certainly been given enough opportunities to show us that he deserves to play but he probably hasn’t performed to the standards we want him too or that we set at the Club
While Brennan’s omission is disappointing, McKenna feels it sends a clear message to the Clubs NEAFL players.
With two games to go this season, there are still opportunities for Clubs NEAFL players to show their wares and be rewarded with a place in the top twenty two and Jacob Gilbee has certainly done that and deserves to be rewarded for his efforts.
