The Gold Coast SUNS have an anxious wait to see what condition star midfielder David Swallow wakes up in tomorrow morning.
After passing every test issued to him at training today, Swallow’s inclusion in the side to play the GWS Giants now hinges on how well his bruised knee holds up.

“He ran well, the issue with Dave will be how he pulls up tomorrow, if his body is right and he pulls up well he will play otherwise we will make a late change.” Said McKenna

The GC SUNS were sharp as they wrapped up preparations for tomorrow’s meeting with the Giants with the coach saying the entire squad was eager to take their opportunities and deliver a much needed win at Metricon Stadium.

“It’s important anytime you have a chance to win at home I think we have had seventeen chances to do that, we have come up short, we have come close in some but after seventeen outs we are not fussed who we get a win against to be honest.”

It’s about building confidence and if you like for the fans and supporters who have stuck thick and thin through our journey so far it would be great reward for their patience and support.
The Club’s lengthy injury list has provided a swag of NEAFL regulars with an opportunity to pull on the first team guernsey with Guy McKenna saying it was not up to each individual to seize their opportunity.

“For our boys who are coming into this game it’s a great opportunity for them and it’s about them grabbing that opportunity the best they can.”

While the Club’s disappointing round seven clash against the Giants had motivated the Gold Coasters to perform at their optimum levels tomorrow, McKenna said there had been zero mention of a wooden spoon amongst the playing or coaching staff.

“We want to do that to build confidence and belief in the group.”

We want to win this game playing the style of footy we want to play and if we do that more regularly we will get up off the bottom and don’t have to worry about that. Despite six forced changes, veteran ruckman Josh Fraser was again left out of the top twenty two.

McKenna admitting the former number one draft pick who played two hundred games with Collingwood before joining the Gold Coast had only a slim chance of building his games tally as the GC SUNS looked to develop their emerging stars.

“I’ve spoken to Josh and he understands where he is at, he understands if we have the chance to play a tall ruck slash forward and he and Josh are at the same sort of level, we are probably going to play a kid going forward of course.”

Bluey also hinted that it could be Fraser’s last season in the AFL when questioned about 2012 being the veteran’s last at the Club.

"I would think so.”
He is comfortable with where he is, he’s fantastic around the group and has been fantastic around the NEAFL.
