Gold Coast finally broke through for its first win in six weeks, after a number of close affairs, with a dominant 63-point victory over North Melbourne at Metricon Stadium on Sunday evening.

Midfielder Hugh Greenwood played a pivotal role in the result and said the four points was a result of hard work and trust in the process over the last month.

“We deserve that,” Greenwood told SUNS Media post-match.

“There hasn't been many games that we haven't been in so although we've been disappointed not getting wins, we’re obviously here for the bigger picture and building on our foundation.

“We feel like we've done that all year but haven't necessarily got the rewards so we got one tonight… to be able to put together four quarters and actually get a result is awesome so I'm pretty stoked.”

Greenwood was particularly pleased with the team’s response after an uncharacteristic match against Carlton in Round 13.

The SUNS lost the majority of the statistical categories against the Blues, but rebounded with wins in contested possessions, clearances, tackles and more against North Melbourne.

“We were certainly disappointed (with last week), but to the maturity and the credit of the young group, we put it behind us and we focused on the bigger picture.

“We're not going to let one game define our season or define our future.

“The maturity to be able to put that one to bed and then come out and play the way we did, we're very excited and we’re very thrilled with it.”

Greenwood has proven to be an important cog in Gold Coast’s midfield this season. 

He’s formed a potent bond with the rest of the SUNS’ regulars in Touk Miller, David Swallow, Noah Anderson and Lachie Weller. 

The 28-year-old said he was enjoying playing alongside those teammates and was importantly forming a synergy which would help drive the team for years to come.

“Our midfield group, we got beaten pretty badly last week so we took a lot of ownership in the way the game went last week,” he said.

“We just complement each other so well, it's just a fun midfield group to be a part of.

“When our forwards continually create a contest and lock it in our half, it makes it pretty easy for us.” 

“We're getting first touch from Witta (Jarrod Witts) and with the group that we have in there, we’re building the cohesion so we're going to be around for a while to come.”
